- How to correctly dilute any paint, comparisons between Vallejo, Scale, Golden and Schmincke, Glazes, Washes, Sketching and Airbrush:
Choose the resolution 1080HD
In this 35 minute video I explain in detail how to dilute both professional and normal painting. I put you prices and frame the differences between Golden, Vallejo, Scale and Schmincke (this one wins). I show you how to illuminate pointing with airbrush to get texture. Sketching as always before to highlight work, give us motivation and enhance the color that we put on it afterwords. Then I glaze to show the dissolution, the same with washes to give redness and green tones to the face and last and most important. We unified all this sketch with airbrush and it stays soft soft smooth as if we had worked hours.

The quality of these videos is excellent! Thank you for providing some information to the beginners. My question: Would you change any of the techniques you used here for a 30-35mm? I am fascinated by your painting technique of sketch, unify, sketch, unify, with many colors but this seems very difficult for 30mm scale.
Aythami Alonso Torrent says
Thanks Chris! Im glad that they are useful.
If you go down on the videotutorial section you will find a Panoceania fusilier tut where I try this on a 28 mm figure. Forgive the few errors the video has, it was one of the firsts but sure you will find an interesting content.
Cheers!

I love this video, really learning a lot and the time taken in explanation is very useful!
Quick question – I cannot see the 1080HD option in Vimeo drop-down, am I missing something here?!
Aythami Alonso Torrent says
Thanks!! im very glad they are being useful 🙂
the 1080HD option is only available on computers but still, I´m checking some videos and it only appears the 720 one.. I will contact Vimeo if there’s any problem.
Bests,

Thank you for the response, for the video part 1 – unifying with airbush, if you do not have access to an airbrush, do we have to unify using many layers of brush glazes with the skin colour?
Aythami Alonso Torrent says
Thats it. Take a skin color mixed with a bit of Red Leather, to achieve a not so clear color, and give several layers with a very diluted paint. Yo can see an example of this “unification” technique in a lot of the videos like the Valder 32mm one while I was painting the skin.

Awesome video ….. can you list the paints you have used please?
Thanks
Aythami Alonso Torrent says
Hi Gavin! Thanks for your words.
You can see the paints Im using while Im painting in the video.
I painted this one a few years ago and I don’t remember xD
Another tip. Experiment to create your own recipes. Is the best way to learn about color.
My last videos like the Misericordia one, or the Nancy p90 were I show you how to mix with primary colors. It opens your mind.
Happy painting!

Hi Aythami, it seems that this bust is no longer available for purchase. Do you think some other of the busts of the same character would be suitable to follow this beginner’s tutorial?
Would you care to recommend one?
Thanks!
Aythami Alonso Torrent says
Hi Xavier,
Sure you have a lot of options even better. For example:
– This is perfect cause it has a lot of different materials https://littledemonstudio.com/index.php?id_product=21&id_product_attribute=0&rewrite=egilon-moine-guerrier-112&controller=product&id_lang=3
– A femenine one https://www.robotrocketminiatures.co.uk/shop/re-k0nnect-anatomic-bust/
– And here a lot of options to choose https://www.puttyandpaint.com
Cheers and take care!
Un saludo y cuídate!

Hey, awesome videos, love the ideas. When you are doing opaque lines you say to use “thick paint.” When you use that phrase, thick paint, do you mean out of the bottle or like 50:50 water to paint.
Aythami Alonso Torrent says
Hi, thanks!
I barely paint directly from the bottle. When you want to sketch or have more control using thick paint i get only a bit of water with the tip of the brush and mix if with paint. Enough fluidity to let the paint run.
Hope it helps! Cheers
James ford says
It does help. The water is a great flow improver. I like mixing a lot of water for my paint, but just a touch of water helps keep it opaque but flow better too. Thank you
If I try to paint without water, it dries on the brush or brushes on chalky which is the worst.
